Books for Sudan Project
BSP – Give books a second chance!
BooksforSudan Project is part of UK organization Books for Sierra Leone and Sudan, supported by students on a voluntary basis. It aims to support libraries and to encourage research and collaboration among universities in the UK, Sudan and Sierra Leone. It collects new books for free from publishing
houses, universities, research institutions and private citizens.
First goal: to send a 40ft container of academic books to Juba University
The condition of Juba University is very poor; the library was closed in 1985 due to the war and has just reopened, but only old books are available. The Library is the heart of the University; its state is an indicator of the life of the institution itself. This project seeks support to overcome the lack of books at Juba University Library and support University research capacity, hence strengthening the civil transformation of southern Sudan society.
